Stockholm

After a few hours sleep in a very warm sleeper compartment we arrived in Stockholm at 630am. Our hotel not only let us leave our bags but let us use the gym to shower which was very refreshing. We then headed out sightseeing, forgetting it was 7am on a Sunday morning. We walked around Gamla Stan, the old town, which was beautiful but deserted. It was also drizzling despite being 27 degrees here yesterday! Luckily we found the only cafe open at that time for coffee and cinnamon buns.

We caught the ferry to Djurgården and instead of heading to the Tivoli gardens amusement park, already crowded, went to the Vasa museum. This vast warship sank in the harbour in 1628 on its maiden voyage. Very unfortunate. It was salvaged in 1961 and is now on display. An awe inspiring sight.

After a few coffees to keep awake we headed for Millesgården, the home and garden of Swedish sculptor Carl Milles. Really lovely despite the rain. We invested in a blue umbrella from the Co-op. Weather forecast is better tomorrow for more Stockholm exploring
